of Neldner Road
Neldner Road debuts with six wines – Kraehe Shiraz, Steinert Shiraz, Brennecke Grenache, Kleinig Mataro, Herman Shiraz, and Loechel Shiraz. The wines of Neldner Road are named for the families who planted the vines in the first place:
Brennecke, Loechel, Kraehe, Steinert, Kleinig and Hermann. Each has its own inimitable character, which varies every year, making each vintage of these wines unique creations that can never be imitated or repeated.
The Story of a wine maker
Dave Powell was seduced by the wine industry after he followed some friends up to the Barossa to work on a harvest in 1981. Since then, he has never turned back. For the next ten years he travelled the world working with wine in California, Italy, Spain and the Rhone Valley as well as worked with many well-known Australian wine producers such as Wolf Blass, Peter Lehmann and most importantly Robert O’Callaghan at Rockford. After realising the potential of the vineyards, in the early nineties he started restoring some old, neglected vineyards, including the Brennecke parcel and began to make wine for himself in 2004. That endeavour, starting at one tonne became a world-famous enterprise producing almost 2000 tonnes.
After seven years in that venture, he set out once again to create a new brand, much smaller and focused so he could personally be involved in all aspects of wine production from growing the grapes all the way to selling the final product. This journey has finally resulted in the creation of Neldner Road Vintners. Neldner Road is the culmination of all Dave has learnt after 40 years in the Wine Business, including all his combined and in-depth knowledge of the Barossa Valleys viticulture and winemaking. “I feel like I'm more of an artist with wine. Kraehe Shiraz

Kraehe Shiraz
The Kraehe Marananga Shiraz jumps out of the glass with blueberry and plum fruits, underscored by sensual oak characters and meaty complexity. It shows ground coffee and mocha, fertile earth and dried herbs.The wine stains the palate and develops layers from beginning to finish – it displays blackberry compote and kirsch, before developing into woodsmoke, cured meats and olive through to the finish. The tannin profile is assertive, yet fine grained and tight-knit. The full-bodied concentrated palate provides a very long-lasting finish.

Steinert Shiraz

Steinert Shiraz
The Steinert Shiraz is the epitome of the beauty and grace of the Eden Valley.”The Steinert’s perfume is beautifully complex, displaying dried herbs and spices, lifted florals, dark cherries, red currants, charcuterie meats and smoked wood. Its palate is supple but refined, with a firm backbone of fine-grained tannins providing the framework for a kaleidoscope of flavours. It sings with dark fruits accompanied by thyme, lavender, cedar and cloves, finishing with a crescendo of soft, powdery tannins.

Brennecke Grenache

Brennecke Grenache
Ripe red cherry and red currants are intertwined with aromas of rhubarb, kirsch, Turkish delight and subtle notes of cedar and white pepper. The palate reveals a sensual, sleek tannin profile which supports a red-fruited core of cherry and cranberry. The palate is multi-layered with complex flavours: red fruits, cedar, spices, hints of vanilla and cinnamon. A truly sensual wine; plush and generous through to the finish.

Kleinig Mataro

Kleinig Mataro
Ground Indian spices, cloves and game meats are underlaid by red and black berry fruits with notes of cedar spice and
cinnamon. The palate shows rich red to dark fruits, cured meats and great vibrancy and freshness. The powerful, mouth-puckering tannins carry the wine through to the finish.

Hermann Shiraz

Hermann Shiraz
This wine shows intense aromas of blueberry, blackberry jam, vanilla musk and olive tapenade with subtle notes of cured charcuterie, graphite, and tar. The soils are rich red-yellow clays with a veneer of white sand as topsoil. The sands provide beautiful, perfumed aromatics of blue fruits while the rich clays provide structure and depth to the wine. A true Northern Barossa style: rich, deep and opulent.

Loechel Shiraz

Loechel Shiraz
The Loechel shows generous dark ripe fruits of blackberry, cherry liqueur and cassis which is supported by dark chocolate and mocha tones and subtle herbs and spice. The palate reveals pronounced dark fruits, underscored by smoky, savoury and meaty notes: olives and charcuterie with subtle reductive
funk. The palate is medium to full-bodied, yet maintains a mouth-staining inkiness to provide a long and satisfying finish with a persistent orange-rind like acid backbone.
